17/04/2020 - Main Menu

The Main Menu

Here's the main menu. It's not much of a looker, but it does the job. All the pages work and there's details and such on them.

Options

Options menu is kinda barebones from my point of view. I'll be adding stuff to it in the future. That said, after making this menu, I built a sound manager to work with Unity's mixers which I already had. As for the two graphics options there, I nicked and modified some of my old code from Bullet Hell Lane Shooter, so now Vsync and FPS limiting are in the game. And I would suggest using them as running at 1500 FPS may give some weird results. I haven't really done any testing at those speeds, but at 144Hz, I haven't had any issues.

Starting The Game

This is the screen you're gonna get when you start a new game, it'll ask you for a character name and a station name. That said, it doesn't save between playthroughs yet.

General UI Stuff

I'm currently in the process of getting the UI to scale properly with different resolutions. Currently the player stats and inventory menus have been fixed, but station UI and the main menu UI are still in the need of corrections. These screenshots just show functionality, not the design you'll see in the demo or the finished product.

Waypoints

You see those arrows around the edges of the screen? That's the new waypoint system. It's basically an indicator to let you know where to deliver your cargo. Alarmingly, this took more me more time to implement than anything else this week. Mostly because of Unity reasons, and totally not because I was making dumb mistakes. Anyway, the arrows rotate and point towards the target, and when the destination is on screen, it changes to a different shape.

Boundaries

No screenshot for this one, but the play area now has boundary colliders around it, so you can no longer go off into the vastness of pitch black nothingness.

Wrapping Up

There's less than two weeks till Demo Day now. I feel like I'm on track. I'm gonna spend the next week or two fixing up some features and correcting the UI scaling. Then just add some additional vanity touches like links to my blog and Twitch channels.

Don't know if I'll make another blog post before Demo Day, so it might be a bit before I do another Devlog. Take care.
