01/07/2021 - Space Cart Is (Not) Dead


This is probably the largest gap between posts so far. But I'll fill you in a bit and then explain what the fuck is actually going on with the project at the moment.

What's New/Changed:

  • Fixed a bug with the movement that occured when the user would use multiple inputs at once.
  • Added an SOS button that becomes enabled when the player runs out of fuel and becomes stuck.
  • The player can now die if the ship runs out of oxygen/food/water, or falls below 0% hull integrity.
  • Working on new menus for stations and mission types.

What The Fuck Is Going On?

Well if you a recent reason as to why there are problems with the project, this recent blog post of mine will explain that.

But basically, I've been busy with multiple projects that have made development slow to a crawl. FIST-EM has become a pet project that I've dipped into working on from time to time, and I recently started a new project called the Game Template Project; which is a series of small template projects around various game genres that I think might be of some use for novices at game jams and such.

On top of that, I've been sick a couple of times and had to take some time off.

But back to the recent problem; Hard Drive failure. As far as I can tell, Space Cart might be OK. However, if there are scripts or assets missing, it's going to cause problems. These issues are going to take time to fix and I have quite a lot of other things going on.

I know it sounds like I'm making excuses, but I promise you, I'm not giving up on the game just yet. Just bare with me for a while.

I don't know when the next update will be, maybe after August; but I do intend on releasing a new demo for Demo Day 41 in November.
