In case you don't understand that joke, unlike Uncharted this game has a map, making it Charted. Get it? No? Well whatever.

Map Screen

I was expecting building a decent map screen to take months to get right. To be fair, just making the map the correct aspect ratio and fit on the screen properly took a couple of days. But spawning stuff on the map was relatively simple, and within a week or two, it's pretty much there functionality wise.

Still some readability issues, you can't interact with the map, and I also would like to have a mini-map on screen as well; but those will be fixed later on.

Other Changes And Fixes

  • Added a waypoint that shows where the player's home station is at all times.
  • Minor tweaks.

What's Next?

The next major updates will probably involve adding NPC and new mission types. But there's a lot of smaller things I want to get to before doing those. I likely will not that those features until after Demo Day 36.

In terms of smaller things I want to change:

  • More SFX for menu UI
  • More fonts
  • Updates to art for various items
  • More cargo types

That's just for getting it to a good place for DD36. But if possible, I'd like to add these:

  • Letting the player make their own custom music playlist so they can listen to whatever they want while playing
  • Implementing fail states for the missions
  • Changing how the galaxy generation works so that it spawns less planets, scales them up significantly, and then spawns items in relation to the planets rather than randomly like it is now.

Considering I still have three months and I'm working at a decent pace, I won't say they won't get added before DD36, but I'm not guaranteeing it.
