09/04/2020 - Order Up!

What in tarnation is that monstrosity?

Hello again. This has been quite the productive week. Lets get stuck in.

Station Progress

Deliveries Can Now Be Accepted And Delivered

The player can now click on the different missions to accept them on the outgoing page, and then when at the destination station, click on them on the incoming page to receive the rewards. All the relevant information is also added to the player-side UI as I'll show later.

Stations Now Have Names And IDs

This was actually already a thing, but wasn't properly implemented. Now it is, and various UI elements have been fixed and updated to show that. It also shows up in Unity too, which makes it easier to find stuff rather than have everything be labelled "Station (Clone)".

Stations Are Now Spawned On The Map

Much like stars and planets, stations now populate the map. There's still a lot of tweaks needing to be made to the spawning system as it generates a lot of everything, but at least it works.

UI Fixes and Changes

Inventory Page Now Works Properly

I was previously having issues with Unity's UI system, mostly the ScrollRect breaking and things not being lined up correctly. Well after doing UI work for the stations I realised what I was doing wrong; I wasn't using the correct layout and content size fitting scripts or not using them in the right places. Having fixed that mistake, the menu now operates as intended.

Orders And Ship Inventory Now Populate

The orders page now populates from the player's accepted deliveries.

And the ship inventory page populates from the items in the ship's inventory.

There is a bug with this UI at the moment where when you first load it, it shows no orders, but if you close and reopen it, it then works properly.

Stats UI Updated

Small addition, added an additional panel of UI stuff to show the player stats that were previously being tracked. And yes, you will be able to change your name in the demo.

What's Next?

There's a few things left I want to add gameplay wise. The most notable feature is a waypoint system so that the player can see where they're supposed to be delivering to and can head in that general direction.

Outside of gameplay, the next thing is to add a main menu. It helps add to the overall presentation. Having an options menu would also be useful for some players.

As per usual, you can follow developments live on my Twitch channel every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. That said; this month, depending on how things go, I may start streaming everyday and for more hours than the usual two or three. We'll see how next week goes.
